Does anyone know why AXIA COLLEGE can make a mistake and send your tuition loan money back and KEEP ur PELL?

WIU or AXIA made a huge mistake and sent my sisters Loan money back to lender and forgot to request it back so when her pell grant money came in to the school, instead of disbursing it to her like it should have been, they kept it to cover their mistake..Is this legal and what recourse does she have..the school has gave her the run around for many months over this..but refuses to give her her pell grant money and it was their mistake and mismanagement of the monies...Thanx Dawn in Indy..DON'T GO TO AXIA OR WIU ONLINE..THEY STINK AND THE COUNSELORS ALWAYS SAY "I DON'T KNOW"..I WOULD NEVER GO THERE..

I go to Axia College. They kept my student loan money and gave me my pell money. I have never had a problem with them. I really like the school. The only thing I say is go to the Better Business Bureau. www.bbb.org, they will help resolve the problem. Guarantee.
Reply:I am currently a student. I am not happy and they did the same thing to me. I coun ted on that money for necesseties and they kept it. And they made sure that I don't get as big of a pell as I used to.Oh well they have it any way. Don't go there!!!!!!!!!!! Report It

Reply:My first word of advice, stay calm and level headed, read everything you get from the college, and be as nice to your FA counselor as you can. You want them on your side as much as possible (although I don't believe they are against your sister per say, but attitudes go a long way in determining how helpful they will be).

First, it is really frustrating that they made a mistake and never re-requested your sisters loan money; however, if they had to send it back in the first place, it's because there was paperwork or some other requirement that your sister didn't meet in order to keep the loan money the first time. Mistakes happen on everyone's part, so just learn to forgive that.

Second, the Title IV act allows schools to keep any federal money (loans, pell grants, etc.) to apply to a student account as long as there is a balance due on the student account. If your sister's loan money was not at the school, then the school needs to keep the pell money until the loan money gets there.

Now that she has drawn the mistake to their attention, they should have requested the loan money to be sent from the lender to the school. Once this money comes to the school, they will be able to release the excess funds to your sister; however, until the school gets the money, they have no money to refund to your sister. The school can't give her money they don't have.

Advise your sister to be patient, be kind (even if the FA counselors seem to be rude, etc.), and follow all directions in a timely manner and it will all work out in the end.
